Neuro-pharmacokinetics (NeuroPK)
The activity of a neuroactive substance is critically dependent on its free concentration in brain extracellular fluid (ECF). From this compartment it can interact with its target receptor or enzyme to produce the desired therapeutic effect.
NeuroPK provides a powerful approach to measure the concentration of a drug candidate in ECF of the brains of conscious animals. The anatomical precision of this method, coupled with the repeated analysis design, yields a full PK profile of a compound in the ECF of the brain region relevant to the CNS disorder under investigation.
